Midge Journal: The Lost Diaries -- Seventh Grade

November

Monday: Only 3 days of school this week. Yippee!! I can't wait for Thanksgiving!!! I'm going to eat a whole drumstick!!!

Tuesday: Passed notes to Alan in Sister Mary Annunciation's class. Alan is soooooooo dreamy.
He has finally gotten over being mad about my getting a better grade on the science test than he got. Sore loser. Peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread and carrots for lunch.

Wednesday: I am soooooooooooo tired. I was so excited for Thanksgiving to finally be here I couldn't sleep a wink all night. I'm going to eat a pound of mashed potatoes! Sister Mary Darren gave us a spelling test and Sister Mary Maurice gave a "pop" quiz in Religion! What a way to start off the holiday!!! I had a baloney and cheese sandwich for lunch on sourdough bread. I don't see why it's called sourdough? It doesn't taste sour to me. Sister Mary Myrtle had us paint turkey pictures in art class. Mine was one large drumstick! She was not pleased.

Thursday: Watched the Macy's Parade after breakfast. Aunt Jane and Uncle Marshall took cousin Midge to see the parade in person. I don't think that's fair because all I got was a drumstick! Grandma and Grandpa brought me a box of fudge and a charm bracelet from their trip to Missouri to see the Giant Arch. I ate a turkey leg and mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing, and 3 pieces of pie! Later, after my stomach settled down, we watched "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang" on TV again!

Friday: Mom and Dad are taking me out shopping today and then we're going to see a movie and eat dinner in a restaurant!

Saturday: Had to clean my room today and do my homework, but I don't mind. Afterward we played Monopoly and I won!!! I always win because Mom and Dad always go to jail! We had hot turkey sandwiches for dinner with lots of gravy and pecan pie for dessert.

Sunday: Went to 8am mass. Father Wally was still talking about things that we should be grateful for. I announced that I wanted a pony for Christmas at the dinner table. We had turkey casserole with potato chips crunched on top for dinner. I had hot cocoa in my room and read "Jane Eyre" until bedtime. I am grateful for pumpkins and turkeys and potato farmers everywhere.

December

Monday: Wore my new snowboots to school today. Walked two blocks. It sure seems farther in the c-c-c-cold. Sister Mary Maurice was chatty at prayer time this morning. Going on about the Advent wreath and lighting candles. I got 100% on my science test. Alan got a 98%. Guess I'll be eating lunch alone until Christmas break! Had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch with Fritos corn chips and an apple. Barbie had beef-a-roni and Dutch apple pie, Rosie had pepperoni pizza and Birthday cake.

Tuesday: I reminded Mom and Dad over oatmeal this morning that it is indeed a Pony that I want for Christmas. I have gotten all A's this year. Had chilli and crackers for lunch.

Wednesday: Walked all the way to school this morning in my new snowboots, (two blocks). Got 100% on the Math quiz. Taking it straight home to the refrigerator. Had chilli and crackers for lunch. Sister Mary Myrtle had us make pointsettias out of construction paper in Art class.

Thursday: Still walking back and forth to school, (two blocks each way), even though it is winter!!! Rosie asked her parents for a record player for Christmas and Barbie asked for new ice skates and an ice skating skirt from Paris, France . Ken asked for Hot Wheels cars and a track. He's so immature!!! Had chilli and crackers for lunch again, Mom!!!

Friday: Last day of school before Christmas break. Sang Christmas Carols at Mass "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Silent Night," "Away in a Manger,". I had a tuna sandwich at lunch. We had punch and cookies in home room during our party/gift exchange. Barbie gave me a red knitted scarf. I gave Bebe the "A Patridge Family Christmas Album" record, Ken gave Alan a wrench and a screw driver, phillips head. Rosie gave Barbie a Granny square hat and gloves and matching slippers. Alan gave Ken a "Betty and Veronica" comic book and 6 cans of Beef-a-Roni, Bebe gave Rosie a 5 year diary with a lock and key, and a brush, comb, and mirror set.

Saturday: Mom and Dad and I went out and chopped down a Christmas tree. It's pretty. I got to help Dad string the lights and then we had chilli for dinner. I really wanted a silver tinsel tree with a revolving color wheel. Maybe next year. Sigh.

Sunday: Went to 8am Mass. Father Wally talked about the forthcoming arrival of Baby Jesus. Grandma and Grandpa came over for lunch. We had chilli and crackers and then we put the ornaments on the tree. Mom made hot cocoa and we listened to Christmas records. I like Rober Goulet and Perry Como.

Midge Journal: The Lost Diaries -- Seventh Grade

October:

Monday: Sister Mary Constance assigned 5 pages of Math "homeworks" and Sister Mary Darren assigned vocabulary sentences and definitions as well as 5 pages of English. Sister Mary Annunciation assigned a chapter in Science, and Sister Mary Gabriella assinged two pages of both Social Studies and Penmanship. I went straight home to my room to die.

Tuesday: Got a 99% on my math pages!!! Whew! What a relief. I want to be an archaeologist some day and you know how mathematical that is. Had a knotworth and Philadelphia cheese sandwich for lunch with carrots and celery.

Wednesday: Science is particularly interesting this year, but not as interesting as lunch is. I got to sit next to Alan, the new boy, by accident of course. He had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and I had hard salami and cheese on rye with celery sticks and an apple. Sigh. We're going to study together for Thursdays Science test (at the Library).

Thursday: Spelling assignments due today. Mine were all in order. Big Science test this morning. Alan and I having studied together for the test together at the Library were calm, cool, and confident. Egg salad sandwich on marbled rye with a pickle and crinkle cut potato chips for lunch. Gym class this afternoon. I'll probably get the kick-ball in the head again!!!

Friday: I got 100% on the spelling test. Yippee!!! Mom says I can have my ears pierced in June if I get all 100%'s in Spelling all year. Had a meatball sandwich on Italian bread with mozzarella and a hard, green pear for lunch. Ken sat next to me. He had olive loaf sandwich (yuck), and a banana flip snack cake.

Saturday: 5 pages of Math homework to do this weekend. Have to clean my room TODAY!!! Barbie's birthday party is tonight! I got her a bottle of Love's Babysoft perfume and powder with a real powder puff and a Mystery Date Game!!! I have to wear my same old rag of a party dress again. Mom says she'll curl my hair. Like that's suppose to make it different!!!!! "Oh, Midge, your hair is curly--is that a new dress?"

Sunday: Up at the crack of dawn. Attended 8:00a.m. Mass. Father Wally's sermon was soooooo long. I thought I'd die before he was through. Going to bed early tonight with a Nancy Drew novel. I'd rather read than sit up and watch "Bonanza". Yawn.

Midge Journal: The Lost Diaries -- Seventh Grade

Monday: First Day of School!!!
Walked all the way to school! (Two whole blocks),
with Barbie and Ken. Sister Mary Maurice is our
homeroom teacher this year. She is older than Granny.
Tuesday: A new boy joined our class. His name is Alan. He is sooooooooooooo dreamy. I had an Underwood Deviled Chicken sandwich and grapes for lunch.
Wednesday: Wow! Math is really going to be tough this year. Mom says I have to work hard. If I get an 'A' the first nine weeks I can get a new pair of saddle shoes.
Thursday: Went to confession this afternoon. I had to tell Father Waldo about my sticking my tongue out at Sister Mary Constance behind her back at the chalkboard. Everybody laughed. I got 'hard penance' for that.
Friday: I walked to school with Barbie and Ken and Bebe (two whole blocks). Attended mass at 11 a.m. My stomach growled and growled. Had a tuna salad sandwich for lunch and a pickle. Bebe had macaroni and cheese and Ken had a banana flip.
Saturday: I went to the movies with the group; Bebe, Barbie, Ken, Rosie and Marty from Saint Eloise school. We saw "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and "Mary Poppins" again! Rosie had cigarettes and we all tried them during the intermission. Yuck!
Sunday: Got up at the crack of dawn. Went to church at 8 a.m. Afterwards we ate brunch with Grandma and Grandpa. I got to drink coffee like the grown ups. Have to go to school tomorrow. I hate school. Ken and Alan pull down my socks between classes.

Tuesday: Salon day at last! Got to get these hands and feet beach ready. Manicure, pedicure, brow and bikini wax, hair trim and I'll feel brand new!

Summer Journal

Monday: Went jogging with Barbie and Bebe this morning. We ran five miles round trip. Barbie was desperate for an Egg McMuffin so we stopped by McDonald's where Barbie gorged herself with greasy egg, cheese and sausage, a cup o'cinnimon rolls and a tall icy cold orange juice. Bebe carbo-loaded with pancakes and chocolate milk. I had a plain toasted bagel and black coffee. On the return run Barbie had a cramp in her side and had to stop on the side of the road to hurl. We'll jog again Wednesday.
