Midge Journal: The Lost Diaries -- Seventh Grade

November

Monday: Only 3 days of school this week. Yippee!! I can't wait for Thanksgiving!!! I'm going to eat a whole drumstick!!!

Tuesday: Passed notes to Alan in Sister Mary Annunciation's class. Alan is soooooooo dreamy.
He has finally gotten over being mad about my getting a better grade on the science test than he got. Sore loser. Peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread and carrots for lunch.

Wednesday: I am soooooooooooo tired. I was so excited for Thanksgiving to finally be here I couldn't sleep a wink all night. I'm going to eat a pound of mashed potatoes! Sister Mary Darren gave us a spelling test and Sister Mary Maurice gave a "pop" quiz in Religion! What a way to start off the holiday!!! I had a baloney and cheese sandwich for lunch on sourdough bread. I don't see why it's called sourdough? It doesn't taste sour to me. Sister Mary Myrtle had us paint turkey pictures in art class. Mine was one large drumstick! She was not pleased.

Thursday: Watched the Macy's Parade after breakfast. Aunt Jane and Uncle Marshall took cousin Midge to see the parade in person. I don't think that's fair because all I got was a drumstick! Grandma and Grandpa brought me a box of fudge and a charm bracelet from their trip to Missouri to see the Giant Arch. I ate a turkey leg and mashed potatoes and gravy and stuffing, and 3 pieces of pie! Later, after my stomach settled down, we watched "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang" on TV again!

Friday: Mom and Dad are taking me out shopping today and then we're going to see a movie and eat dinner in a restaurant!

Saturday: Had to clean my room today and do my homework, but I don't mind. Afterward we played Monopoly and I won!!! I always win because Mom and Dad always go to jail! We had hot turkey sandwiches for dinner with lots of gravy and pecan pie for dessert.

Sunday: Went to 8am mass. Father Wally was still talking about things that we should be grateful for. I announced that I wanted a pony for Christmas at the dinner table. We had turkey casserole with potato chips crunched on top for dinner. I had hot cocoa in my room and read "Jane Eyre" until bedtime. I am grateful for pumpkins and turkeys and potato farmers everywhere.

December

Monday: Wore my new snowboots to school today. Walked two blocks. It sure seems farther in the c-c-c-cold. Sister Mary Maurice was chatty at prayer time this morning. Going on about the Advent wreath and lighting candles. I got 100% on my science test. Alan got a 98%. Guess I'll be eating lunch alone until Christmas break! Had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch with Fritos corn chips and an apple. Barbie had beef-a-roni and Dutch apple pie, Rosie had pepperoni pizza and Birthday cake.

Tuesday: I reminded Mom and Dad over oatmeal this morning that it is indeed a Pony that I want for Christmas. I have gotten all A's this year. Had chilli and crackers for lunch.

Wednesday: Walked all the way to school this morning in my new snowboots, (two blocks). Got 100% on the Math quiz. Taking it straight home to the refrigerator. Had chilli and crackers for lunch. Sister Mary Myrtle had us make pointsettias out of construction paper in Art class.

Thursday: Still walking back and forth to school, (two blocks each way), even though it is winter!!! Rosie asked her parents for a record player for Christmas and Barbie asked for new ice skates and an ice skating skirt from Paris, France . Ken asked for Hot Wheels cars and a track. He's so immature!!! Had chilli and crackers for lunch again, Mom!!!

Friday: Last day of school before Christmas break. Sang Christmas Carols at Mass "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "Silent Night," "Away in a Manger,". I had a tuna sandwich at lunch. We had punch and cookies in home room during our party/gift exchange. Barbie gave me a red knitted scarf. I gave Bebe the "A Patridge Family Christmas Album" record, Ken gave Alan a wrench and a screw driver, phillips head. Rosie gave Barbie a Granny square hat and gloves and matching slippers. Alan gave Ken a "Betty and Veronica" comic book and 6 cans of Beef-a-Roni, Bebe gave Rosie a 5 year diary with a lock and key, and a brush, comb, and mirror set.

Saturday: Mom and Dad and I went out and chopped down a Christmas tree. It's pretty. I got to help Dad string the lights and then we had chilli for dinner. I really wanted a silver tinsel tree with a revolving color wheel. Maybe next year. Sigh.

Sunday: Went to 8am Mass. Father Wally talked about the forthcoming arrival of Baby Jesus. Grandma and Grandpa came over for lunch. We had chilli and crackers and then we put the ornaments on the tree. Mom made hot cocoa and we listened to Christmas records. I like Rober Goulet and Perry Como.
